New Door Handle Height

Door handle height – you have probably seen one that seems odd-apparently that clearly shows someone had no idea where to place the button. Typically, the grip is higher than normal and gives you the feeling of being an awkward child as you get up to twist it. The biggest concern with door handle placement in most of today’s doors is aesthetic. Although there is something that speaks for consistency, it really has no impact on the operation of the button

The standard door handle height on a typical 80-inch high, household door is 36 inches. Why it’s standard is not certain. The most likely explanation is that when we began to mass-produce doors, the center of most middle rails in the typical drop filler port was 36 inches from the bottom of the door. This is how it is still measured today, with tape measure hooked under the corner of the door to a height of 36 inches up.

While the 36-inch height is the center line for standard door handle height, it’s not the only consideration. The backset or the distance from the edge of the door is crucial for the operation of the knobs. This measurement varies, as most mass-produced knobs are adjustable from a backset of 2 and 1/8 inches to 2 and 3/4 inches, which are the two most common backsets. Knob holes are usually 2 and 1/4 inches in diameter with edge drill for the attacker to be 1 inch in diameter.
